How do I disable the Update Variable button under releases?

This post here gives me conflicting answers. It’s also two years old:

Is there a way to restrict access to the Update Variables button on the release page

Does anyone know of a way to restrict a user’s access to the ‘Update Variables’ button on the Releases screen? We’d like to disable that option without removing their ability to update variables associated with the project or in a library variable set. When those variables are updated we want to force a new release to be created rather then allowing an existing release to be updated. Thanks for any tips Mike

Hi Lee,

Thanks for getting in touch! Unfortunately there’s no way to disable this specific Update Variable button, other than restricting the permissions the user has (i.e. with ReleaseEdit, VariableEdit, etc.). Though this permissions change would cause restrictions beyond just this button, which is probably not what you’re wanting.

The thread you linked to mentions a UserVoice suggestion, which I think is this one here.

It might be worth throwing some votes (and maybe describing your use case) to this suggestion to boost its visibility.
