Wondering if it will be possible in future to connect Octopus Cloud to our in house Active Directory without messing with Azure?

I don’t think we will be able to support this as there are a number of network and security challenges in connecting an Octopus Cloud server instance with your on-premise Active Directory.
You can (as you indicated) connect your on-premise AD to Azure AD using Azure AD Connect and then configure Octopus Cloud to use AzureAD authentication.
