Error deploying to polling tentacle

Hi, on deployment to production environment we got following error:

The step failed: Activities failed with errors ‘Bootstrapper did not return the bootstrapper service message’, ‘Bootstrapper did not return the bootstrapper service message’, ‘Bootstrapper did not return the bootstrapper service message’, ‘The remote script failed with exit code 100’

We are using Cloud version of Octopus Deploy, due to limited connectivity we are using Polling Tentacle on our deployment server.

Thanks for sending that through, it looks like the tentacle process might be getting block by something.

Would you be able to check if Anti-virus is blocking the Octopus Tentacle application on your deployment target?

The bootstrapper is designed to tell Octopus Server/Cloud what the tentacle needs to run the deployment so if this is getting blocked then this will most likely fail the deployment.

Hi, some files are being downloaded, and seems Anti-Virus is disabled. Could it be timeout issue- is there anyway to increase timeout on tentacle? I will try to re-push NuGet packages to internal repository to see if that makes any difference.

Thanks for checking anti-virus, You could try increase the polling timeouts by going to Infrastructure → Machine Policies → Default Machine Policy → Polling Request Queue Timeout.

update- it seems error occurs with new version of nuget packages- re-deploy of old versions works without any problem. I installed tentacle on my machine and acquiring of previous version of nuget packages (2.13.0.262) works without any problem, but acquiring of 2.13.1.263 fails (on tentacle deployed on my machine as well).
I also tried to re-deploy old version on production server and it works without problem, so there is definitely some issue with internal nuget package library / version of nuget packages. Is there anything I can try, it’s getting a bit urgent.

Also- all Nuget packages of version 2.13.1.263 exist in Octopus internal library and are valid (I checked by installing them manually).

Hi, I have only one file/package downloaded- out of 10 files there were supposed to be.

This is a head-scratcher.
We have discussed this internally here. Would you be able to try and re-upload the package manually through the UI and try a redeploy?

If that doesn’t work, would you be able to upload a test package and try and deploy that?

From your task log, I can see that it’s trying to deploy to two tentacles. Did you see if the package has been transferred to either of the tentacles?

You were right, I checked and there was two deployment targets instead of one. After removing both and reinstalling tentacle on deployment server deployment went through. Checked one more time to see whether everything works as it should.

We are researching what might be cause of error- probably it’s not very likely it happened through Calamari upgrade.

This could happen if you have cloned the server where the tentacle was installed.

Hi @dom.richardson - just wanted to confirm issue was actually caused by cloned server. We didn’t pay much attention to it because it was cloned 5 months ago, but some recent issue caused error to appear last Monday. You can close this topic.
