Cannot restore database after upgrade

after reporting this proglem:

We uninstalled as prompted during installation of the newer version, in the manager console we choose the ‘Delete the Octopus instance’ and re-installed. The newer version 2.3.3 is now correctly displayed however we cannot restore the database. This is a fairly big disaster for us as its taken weeks to get the deployments correct, not to mention the history of all the releases.

Any ideas what we can try next?
