Automatic user creation with AD Auth

We are setting up ocotpus deploy for our project and have setup for AD auth and using AD group in team to provide permissions to users. Octopus is creating automatic user on ad login. If we disable automatic user creation, ad login is not working, Is it mandatory step to keep it enable?

Octopus version: 2018.8.2

Hi @akankshaC,

Thanks for getting in touch! When using AD in Octopus, a user is required to be created in the Octopus portal. The user we create hold information from AD such as SAN, Email, and UPN.

If you disable the automatic user creation, new users who have not already logged into Octopus and had an automatic account created, will not be able to log in.

So technically no, it is not mandatory. Though it is required for new AD users first sign on.

We have a small documentation page on this.

Does this help answer your question?

Let me know if you have any further thoughts or questions here.

Daniel

Thanks Daniel for detail. It’s clear now. We were not sure if we were missing something.
