Will Calamari auto update after install?

Hi,

We are upgrading Octopus from 2018.8.5 to 2020.4 in a new server. After we installed the 2018.8.5 Octopus, we are wondering if the Calamari will automatically update before we do the first software deployment?

We don’t want the Calamari to be updated till we cutover to the new version.

Thank you for contacting Octopus Support.

According to our documentation:

If Automatically is selected, Octopus will start a task to update Tentacles whenever Octopus detects that there is a pending Tentacle upgrade (after health checks for example). Conversely, Octopus will not automatically update Tentacle but instead will display a prompt to begin a Tentacle update on the Deployment Targets and Environments screens.

Essentially, Calamari will update on the target automatically when you deploy, not before.
