Version upgrading - cumulative or incremental?

I see similar questions posted, referencing versions 2.x to 3.x or the latest version at that time, but since the version number pattern has changed, I thought is safer to ask.

I have two servers, one running version 2018.6.11 and one running version 3.17.12. Is it possible to run a single upgrade to get these two servers to version 2019.5.10, or will I need to run incremental upgrades?

Thanks in advance.
Mike

Hi @Mike_Prendergast!

While it is technically possible to upgrade any modern (version 3+) version of Octopus up to the latest in a single operation, we do recommend doing a proof-of-concept upgrade on a clone of your server when going from version 3.x, simply because there’s a massive number of changes that happened between the two releases. We want to make sure that any breaking changes don’t catch you by surprise!

As always when dealing with these major upgrades, we can not understate the importance of snapshots and backups of everything (file system, SQL databases, Octopus master keys).

We have a wealth of information on upgrading available, so here are some great resources for you to look over:

I hope this helps, and please don’t hesitate to let us know if you have any further questions!
