Variable evaluted with asteriks

#{SRVacctPSWD} is set to 1234; note this variable has sensitive uncheck.

However the it renders incorrectly to :

  • OctopusSuppressNestedScriptWarning] = ‘True’
  • [OctopusUseGuidedFailure] = ‘False’
  • [] = '

This worked fine in other deployments; for some reason it now renders SRVacctPSWD to ********

Hi,

Thanks for getting in touch! If at any point while you were testing you created the password to be the same as the name, then we cache sensitive variable values to mask everywhere.
We have had people test with values such as ‘a’ and it has masked every a in all the logs and screens.
So to remove this particular issue you will have to restart the Octopus Server service to remove the cache.

Hope that helps!
Vanessa

Rebooting the server only fix the value; however the variable name is still [************]; I look at previous deployments that worked and we can see on the log the variable name and the value; btw the name of this variable is “SRVacctPSWD” we don’t have anything like that as a value.

Hi,

The value will be masked even if its in another project or variable set. Can you confirm it isn’t set in those?
