I’ve got into a situation where the v2 installer thinking that another v2 installation is on the machine. However, it was previously uninstalled through programs and features and I’ve run through this page:
But if I remove these settings the version 1.6 server I’m trying to upgrade will be broken. What do I need to do to get around this?

You can safely delete the install location value as it was not used for 1.6 installs, it will not effect your existing setup.

Yeah I worked that out for myself and got the entries removed and all was up and running again in no time …
BUT my 1.6 backup turned out to have duplicate entries somehow so I lost a load of data …

I am sorry that you lost some data. Can I ask a few questions so we can understand a bit about what happened?
Did you do the 1.6 import more than once over an already imported set of data?
Where did you lose the entries from? Was it from something between the time of one import and then a next?
Were both installs working at the same time to do or test deployments?
