Upgrade tentacle from 1.6 to 3.0

HI,

I am running octopus version 1.6, I want to upgrade to the latest 3.0 version. I upgraded the server from 1.6 to 2.6 and i will be upgrading the server to 3.0. We have over 160 tentacles, Do i have to upgrade all the tentacles from 1.6 to 2.6 and then from 2.6 to 3.0 or i can directly upgrade from 1.6 to 3.0

Hi Krishna,

Thanks for reaching out. You’re gonna have to first upgrade them from 1.6 to 2.6 and then to 3.X.

This doc covers the whole process from 1.6 to 2.6, and provides a link for when you are ready to move to 3.X

I recommend you that after you upgrade from 1.6 to 2.6, test a few deployments to make sure everything is still working as expected in 2.6. Then move on the next step and upgrade to 3.0.

Thanks Dalmiro, i followed the process for upgrading the Server, We have more than 160 tentacles, Can i skip upgrading to 2.6 and move to 3.0 version as it will save us a ton of time.

Hi Krishna,

It’s not possible to jump from 1.6 to 3.0. You’re gonna have to:

  1. Upgrade from 1.6 to 2.6 either manually or using the script on our doc.
  2. Upgrade from 2.6 to 3.0 using hydra.
