Upgrade from 3.3.8 to Latest version

HI

One of our client using Octopus , installed version is 3.3.8. I think current version is 3.7.8.

My Q is

Is there any risk in keeping this version for some time ?
What is steps to upgrade to latest version ?
How long it will take to upgrade to latest version

Venkat

Hi Venkataraman,

Thanks for getting in touch! There is no risk staying with the current version you are on.
Our thoughts are that if you have all the features you need and you haven’t found any bugs or issues using it the way you are then you do not need to upgrade.

That being said we are always making fixes to features, improvements to performance and generally trying to make Octopus a better product with each release so we do believe that upgrading every so often (when a new feature seems like it would be great for you or you have found a bug that we have fixed in a later version).

We have a release comparison page that lists all of the changes between versions: https://octopus.com/downloads/compare
We also have some documentation around how to perform upgrades: http://docs.octopus.com/display/OD/Upgrading+from+Octopus+3.x

How long will it take? It does depend on your data size, infrastructure and server. Anything over an hour for the Octopus Server to be upgraded would be excessive, mostly it is a very fast process. It can take longer for your Tentacles to be upgraded, but this is not as critical as Tentacles do not need to be upgraded to match the Server version.

Please let me know if you have any further questions.
