Replicate/Configure service to new host

(Parthiban D) #1

Hi Octopus Team,

We are upgrading the windows server, so we were trying configure the services from existing server to new server. We would like to know that can we do using Octopus for replicating or configure the services from old machine to new machine.

Thanks
Parthiban

Hi @Parthiban.D,

Welcome to Octopus!

Just so I’ve understood the question correctly.

You have a windows server which you are upgrading and want to move over your Octopus Server instance from the old machine to the new machine?

If that is correct I would advise you to look at our docs for this which I have posted below:

It is a step by step guide on how to move everything across.

I hope this has helped.

Kind regards,
Ziaul

Thanks you Ziaul. for your prompt response.

No it isn’t i’m looking for.
We are upgrade production server, not octopus.
like other words - services on production server are needed to be configure to new windows server. this task has to be done using Octopus.

Any thoughts

Hi @Parthiban.D

Apologies for the misunderstanding.

It’s possible to do this using Octopus.

There are a few options for you to choose from:

You can do this via a script step.

The script step would look very similar to this:

Alternatively, you can go back to the previous deployments for your services and add a new deployment target which in this case would be the new production server.

Select “Skip any package that is already installed”.

Re-deploy the application, so you’ll get the services on the new production server.

I hope this information helps you.

Kind regards,
Ziaul
