Octopus License Update Technical Doc

Hi Team,

Do you have a license upgrade technical doc to guide clients on how to upgrade the license in the octopus server? The docs mostly talk of pricing and no tech aspect.

Just to be clear, we have purchased your updated license (with XML) and wanted to know update steps along with pre and post steps and/or checks.

Thanks,
Nikhil

Hi Nikhil,

Thanks for getting in touch! In your Octopus web portal under Configuration > License, you can paste in your new XML snippet to apply the updated license key to your Octopus server.

If you’re looking to upgrade your Octopus Server version, we have a section in our documentation covering this process.

I hope that helps, and please let me know how you go.

Best regards,

Kenny

Hi @Kenneth_Bates,

Thanks for replying.

We wanted to see if steps like this are documented at any place along with pre and post checks of this step?
"under Configuration > License, you can paste in your new XML snippet to apply the updated license key to your Octopus server"

Thanks,
Nikhil

Applying a new license will either succeed or fail outright. If there is a problem with the license XML this will be made apparent when you attempt to save it.
As such, there aren’t really any pre or post checks or additional documentation around this process.

Paul

Do we need internet?
Our Octopus is on an intranet server behind a proxy, disconnected from the internet.

Cheers,
Nikhil

An active internet connection should not be necessary. The license validity is confirmed internally by the software.

Thanks for the help. It worked.

As a suggestion - This is a less often performed step happening after year(s). Resources leave during this time, exposing us to ‘Key Person Dependency Risk’. If it’s documented, then this task can be assigned to any resource. All he need would be the doc and updated XML without any prior knowledge thus mitigating our risk.

Thanks,
Nikhil
