Moving/renaming Octopus invalidates license

Hi,

we recently moved our Octopus Server from one domain to another (from internal to DMZ) and we renamed the server (changing computer name, and the hostname) and now we are experiencing licensing issues. The server complains that the license is invalid, even though it worked fine before moving it.

I can’t seem to re-activate the license again:

There was a problem with your request.
The license could not be updated because the server is not compliant, so using the license would disable functionality.
Unfortunately your license limits have been exceeded, and you will no longer be able to create or deploy releases. Your Octopus Deploy license only allows 1 active node. You currently have 3 active nodes.

We’re still only using one server to run Octopus, what could have caused this?

Please disregard this. We were able to locate the database table and delete the incorrect Nodes.

Hi Andreas,

Thanks for getting in touch! Glad to hear you’ve got it resolved.

Just in case you ever hit this problem again, you might like to know that in Octopus 3.4.12, we added functionality to the UI to be able to remove the nodes, rather than having to delete them from the database.

As hitting this error message without providing a way of resolving it is not a great user experience, I’ve logged an issue so that we can improve this error message.

Regards,
Matt
