I am migrating our existing Octopus Instance from in house hosted VM to Azure hosted VM. We are not moving VMs but rather moving the data to new/update installation. Everything works except licences with which I am running into an issue. Essentially i am unable to complete the setup unless i have a working second instance (we need continuity and won’t be able to switch unless Azure instance is fully set up). I have attached a screenshot of the issue/message.
Any help or suggestion would be appreciated.
Hi,
Thanks for getting in touch! I’m sorry you’ve hit this roadblock in moving your data. This license issue generally happens when two instances of Octopus are pointing to the same database, which is a High Availability setup that requires a specific license. The following link will provide information on removing the additional node.
We also have some guides outlining the process to move Octopus components. The following shows our recommended approach to moving your Octopus data.
Additionally, the following doc page provides a guide to migrating your Octopus instance to a new installation. Note that you can only move your server to the same version. If you would like to upgrade, you would need to upgrade your original instance before the migration, or upgrade your new instance after the migration.
I hope this helps! Let me know how you go and if you have any further questions.
Best regards,
Kenny
