How do I migrate the data directory for the Octopus Deploy server?

On our server hosting Octopus Deploy (among other things), we’re starting to run out of space on the C drive. We installed the Octopus Deploy server using the default settings (Data directory = C:\Program Files (x86)\Data).

We would like to migrate the current data directory of “C:\Program Files (x86)\Data” to a larger drive. Is it sufficient to simply modify the data directory within the administration tool?

We are concerned about whether the data will be migrated automatically by the Octopus Deploy service or if we have to manually do so.

Is this something you’re looking for?

Hi,

Thanks for getting in touch. You’ll need to:

  1. Create a backup
  2. Open the management tool and change the data folder, and save the changes
  3. Restore your backup

Instructions for creating and restoring backups are here:

Hope this helps,

Paul

Paul,

Thank you, that answers my question exactly.

Using OD 2.3.6. Octopus Manager does not allow changing folder even when the server is down. Am I missing anything?

Hi Andrey,

No, Octopus 2.x has changed in this regard. I’ve just added a page to our documentation describing the steps: http://docs.octopusdeploy.com/display/OD/Move+the+Octopus+Home+folder
