If we are using a custom domain account to run the Octopus Server service (instead of the default Network svc) does the tentacle service need to run under the same account or can it run under any account on the tentacle machine without causing issues?

Thanks for reaching out! No, the Tentacle service does not have to run under the same account as your Octopus Server. By default, it is run under the Local System account. Though you can change it to a custom domain account in the Tentacle Server if you’d like, and that’s totally acceptable.
There are minimum requirements for your Tentacle service to operate. You can refer to our documentation when considering which privileges are appropriate for your scenario.
