Create release issue for GitHub feed

Hi Team,

I am Prabhjot working on Octopus Deploy. I am trying to transfer a package from GitHub feed and while creating a release, I am getting error saying version required. Can you please help me to understand what version it requires.

Thanks,
Prabhjot

Good afternoon @prabhjotkour.91,

Thank you for contacting Octopus Support and sorry to hear you are seeing issues when you are trying to create a release. Can I ask how you created that release, did you do it via the UI or did you use the CLI?

I only ask as, if you use the ‘Transfer a Package’ step in Octopus and create a release via the UI you are taken to the create release page where it asks you what version of the package you want to deploy:

You must select a version for the release to be created. How have you named your package as it should include a version number ie:

When you upload the package as a .zip (if using the Octopus built in feed) you would need to have the version number in the name of the file:

If you have used a build server to build the package you should have a version number there too:

Can you confirm the package you are trying to transfer has a version number, if it does not you will need to create it with a version number so Octopus can detect that version and you can select it during the release creation.

Does that help at all?

I look forward to hearing from you,
Kind Regards,
Clare
